2023 Côtes-du-Rhône “Poignée de Raisins”
Domaine GramenonAs an early adopter of biodynamic farming, Michèle Aubery-Laurent transformed her remote domaine in Montbrison-sur-Lez into a benchmark producer of Grenache-based reds. With this cuvée, perhaps the most iconic in her lineup, she reimagined what Grenache could be: easy-drinking, weightless, and precise. Today, Poignée de Raisins—which translates enticingly to a “fistful of grapes”—has gone on to influence countless contemporary growers across France who embrace a similar style. But for a taste of the original glou-glou southern Rhône rouge, pull the cork on this bottling.

An abundance of violets and velvet, amid a cooling sensation of a cold spring on a hot day.

This dark, autumnal rosé is a beacon of tradition in a sea of paler styles.
2022 Côtes-du-Rhône Rouge “Contre Couleur”

Every three or four months I would send my clients a cheaply made list of my inventory, but it began to dawn on me that business did not pick up afterwards. It occurred to me that my clientele might not know what Château Grillet is, either. One month in 1974 I had an especially esoteric collection of wines arriving, so I decided to put a short explanation about each wine into my price list, to try and let my clients know what to expect when they uncorked a bottle. The day after I mailed that brochure, people showed up at the shop, and that is how these little propaganda pieces for fine wine were born.—Kermit Lynch
