2022 Côtes-du-Rhône Rouge “Contre Couleur”
Domaine GramenonMichèle Aubéry-Laurent is a true renaissance woman: winemaker, mother, painter, former nurse…and each facet seems to find its way into her cuvées. “Contre Couleur” is the newest one—a blend of red, pink, and white varieties—and pays homage to a term she uses to describe how contrasting colors play off one another to bring objects into focus. Deep, dynamic Grenache feels aptly highlighted by bright and fresh Clairette. Soft and rich, yet still defined, the proof of Michèle’s color theory shines, too, in the bottle. This is an artist who knows her brush strokes.

France | Southern Rhône
Perfect for those who enjoy delicacy and finesse in their Châteauneuf.
2022 Côtes-du-Rhône “L' Emouvante”
France | Southern Rhône
Deep, concentrated, and refreshingly saline, this is like great Cornas with Mediterranean influences.
2023 Côtes-du-Rhône “Poignée de Raisins”
France | Southern Rhône
Serve this one cool, from a carafe, with a plain old burger—generously seasoned with herbes de Provence.
2022 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc “Clos la Roquète”
France | Southern Rhône
Clos La Roquète’s blanc is luscious, yet finishes nice and dry with striking acidity.
2020 Gigondas “Racines” MAGNUM
France | Southern Rhône
Intense in both color and character, the most dense and vinous I can ever remember from this cuvée.
2022 Côtes-du-Rhône “La Sagesse”
France | Southern Rhône
La Sagesse carries the full flavor, succulence, and savoriness we associate with Grenache on a graceful and lively frame.
2023 Côtes du Rhône Villages Rouge
France | Southern Rhône
October Adventures Club ~ We aimed for maximum drinkability in our blend, and accordingly, you’ll find plenty of hedonistic purple-tinged fruit in this wine, along with a hint of wild herbs and lovely floral notes akin to lavender and violet.
2020 Châteauneuf-du-Pape “La Crau”
France | Southern Rhône
The majesty of the La Crau vineyard is encapsulated in this wine. I can’t think of a grander expression of Southern Rhône terroir.
2022 Vacqueyras Rouge “Floureto”
France | Southern Rhône
The flavors are mostly deep and dark—stones, licorice, black olive, and blackberry—but the frame is lithe.

Every three or four months I would send my clients a cheaply made list of my inventory, but it began to dawn on me that business did not pick up afterwards. It occurred to me that my clientele might not know what Château Grillet is, either. One month in 1974 I had an especially esoteric collection of wines arriving, so I decided to put a short explanation about each wine into my price list, to try and let my clients know what to expect when they uncorked a bottle. The day after I mailed that brochure, people showed up at the shop, and that is how these little propaganda pieces for fine wine were born.—Kermit Lynch
