2022 Saint Joseph Rouge “Les Ribaudes”
Lionel Faury
When I asked Lionel Faury several years ago who, in his home region of the northern Rhône Valley, inspires him most, he didn’t name one of the legends of this region’s Big Three appellations—Hermitage, Cornas, and Côte-Rôtie. Instead, he said simply, “Jean Gonon,” one of his peers working in the appellation of Saint Joseph, situated between Côte-Rôtie and Cornas on the Rhône River’s western flank. If, in recent years, the reputation of Saint Joseph has joined the likes of Hermitage, Cornas, and Côte-Rôtie as one of France’s exalted sites for the Syrah grape, that arrival is largely thanks to both Gonon and Faury, who produce appellation- and region-defining wines from incredible vineyards and on the backs of long family traditions. “Syrah is a very expressive grape,” says Lionel, who is wholly devoted to the grape variety’s terroir transparency and points out that, in Saint Joseph, this translates to an abundance of minerality in the glass. This rouge delivers on that promise and more, with its mesmerizing flavors of dark fruit, black pepper, and smoked meat, plus its outstanding elegance. Pour this alongside Chris Lee’s peppercorn-crusted short ribs for an unforgettable feast.

About The Producer
Lionel Faury
Along the steep, narrow valley that traces the northern Rhône, the appellations of Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu and Saint-Joseph take their place among the great wines of France, and Domaine Faury is one of the region’s most artisanal producers. When Philippe Faury took over the domaine in 1979, the family was selling wine, peaches and cherries, and the bulk of their clientele was local. Over the years, Philippe increased their holdings to over 11 hectares and began to sell internationally. He shared his savoir faire with his son, Lionel. Since 2006, Lionel has taken over the reins, though father and son still work side by side. Every method they use encourages the grape towards greatness with the ultimate respect for its fragility.

Great winemakers, great terroirs, there is never any hurry. And I no longer buy into this idea of “peak” maturity. Great winemakers, great terroirs, their wines offer different pleasures at different ages.

Promo Code Terms
There are two types of promo codes
1) a code that gives you a percentage off your order
2) a code that gives you a dollar amount off your order
How do promo codes or coupon codes work?
When you place an order with a percentage coupon code, the discount only applies to discount eligible items. An eligible item typically is a product that does not already have a discount. Sampler packs that already have discounts applied to them do not count towards the minimum of 12 eligible items. In your shopping cart, you'll see percentage discounts next to each bottle.
When you place an order with a dollar amount code, the dollar amount is added to your discount. In your shopping cart, the dollar amount is subtracted from your total, and does not show next to each bottle.
