It is late spring: the birds are singing, flowers are in full bloom, and we are regularly blessed with the sort of days that make us fall in love with our planet all over again. Even if great wine is not seasonal, it’s hard to deny that bright, invigorating whites are particularly hard to resist this time of year.
Boxler’s Edelzwicker, a dry white made from a harmonious medley of traditional Alsatian grapes, is a fragrant beauty full of floral charm for such gorgeous days. For a stonier alternative, Quenard’s Abymes captures the pure essence of Jacquère grown on cool slopes of Alpine rubble, while Gregoletto’s Manzoni Bianco provides crisp orchard fruit and a core of crunchy minerality that guarantee mouthwatering refreshment. In Bregeon’s Muscadet, you’ll taste the briny winds whipping off the Atlantic, perfect for cooling off on a warm afternoon. And from the heights of Alto Adige’s limestone hillsides, Peter Dipoli has crafted a laser-focused Sauvignon Blanc loaded with tangy citrus and mountain herbs.
Armed with this six-pack, you will be fully prepared to take on the most lovely time of year, with ready-to-go options that assure refreshment and intrigue.

Kermit inspecting wine barrels

For the wines that I buy I insist that the winemaker leave them whole, intact. I go into the cellars now and select specific barrels or cuvées, and I request that they be bottled without stripping them with filters or other devices. This means that many of our wines will arrive with a smudge of sediment and will throw a more important deposit as time goes by, It also means the wine will taste better.
