2019 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru “Hameau de Blagny”
Comtesse de ChériseyThe Hamlet of Blagny, which gives its name to this particular premier cru, enjoys a privileged position high above the village of Puligny-Montrachet. The cool nights at this elevation are essential to a slow and steady ripening in hot years, while the old vines—planted in 1950—have their roots deeply entrenched in the marl subsoil, finding crucial resources to survive Burgundy’s increasingly frequent periods of drought. Succulent fruit abounds in this sun-soaked 2019, underlain by the electric signature of wines from this remote corner of the Côte de Beaune. A guaranteed ager, this is tasting just ravishing today.

2022 Juliénas
France | Burgundy
With loads of fresh Gamay fruit, it flows over the palate with a juicy buoyancy that simply makes it hard to resist.
2011 Meursault-Blagny 1er Cru “La Genelotte”
France | Burgundy
The vintage, austere and tense in its youth, has matured into the best a perfectly aged Meursault can offer.
2020 Beaune 1er Cru “Les Montrevenots”
France | Burgundy
The wine benefits from some air upon pulling the cork, and soon opens up to loads of red raspberry and cherry fruit with wet stone minerality underneath.
2018 Saint Romain Blanc
France | Burgundy
Full-bodied style, golden, old-school Chardonnay with a chalky base.
2020 Meursault-Blagny 1er Cru “La Genelotte”
France | Burgundy
De Chérisey produces classic Chardonnay that seems as if from a different time. White Burgundy like this doesn’t come around very often.
2020 Rully Blanc 1er Cru “Cloux”
France | Burgundy
From an east-facing premier cru parcel on steep slopes, this rich and noble white wine is long, elegant, and refreshing.
2022 Bourgogne Rouge
France | Burgundy
All you need to know is that this wine drinks like a Beaujolais with loads of black, sappy fruit and is ounce per ounce more pleasurable and delicious than anything you’d find in a collector’s stash.
2009 Blagny Rouge 1er Cru “La Genelotte”
France | Burgundy
Intensely perfumed with violets, roses, plums, and exotic spices, there is a dreamy, ethereal side to this beauty.
2020 Marsannay Blanc “Clos du Roy”
France | Burgundy
I find the Clos du Roy blanc to be quite versatile at my house in Meursault, especially with fowl, pork, and veal.
2022 Bourgogne Rouge “Champs Cadet”
France | Burgundy
This is young Pinot at its best: aromatic, expressive, and a true pleasure to drink.
About The Producer
Comtesse de Chérisey
The lost hamlet of Blagny, up in the hills between Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault in the Côte d’Or in Burgundy, is home to Comtesse de Chérisey. This almost magical, lost-in-time corner of the world boasts a unique microclimate, with a slightly different average temperature, exposition and soil than the rest of Burgundy. In our humble opinion, our friend and vigneron, Laurent Martelet, creates the most haunting masterpieces that emerge from this terroir. All of the de Chérisey vines are premier cru, are at least 60 years old, and they encircle their ancient cellar in the Hameau de Blagny.
About The Region
Burgundy
In eastern central France, Burgundy is nestled between the wine regions of Champagne to the north, the Jura to the east, the Loire to the west, and the Rhône to the south. This is the terroir par excellence for producing world-class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
The southeast-facing hillside between Dijon in the north and Maranges in the south is known as the Côte d’Or or “golden slope.” The Côte d’Or comprises two main sections, both composed of limestone and clay soils: the Côte de Nuits in the northern sector, and the Côte de Beaune in the south. Both areas produce magnificent whites and reds, although the Côte de Beaune produces more white wine and the Côte de Nuits more red.
Chablis is Burgundy’s northern outpost, known for its flinty and age-worthy Chardonnays planted in Kimmeridgian limestone on an ancient seabed. Vézelay is a smaller area south of Chablis with similar qualities, although the limestone there is not Kimmeridgian.
To the south of the Côte de Beaune, the Côte Chalonnaise extends from Chagny on its northern end, down past Chalon-sur-Saône and encompasses the appellations of Bouzeron in the north, followed by Rully, Mercurey, Givry, and Montagny.
Directly south of the Chalonnaise begins the Côte Mâconnais, which extends south past Mâcon to the hamlets of Fuissé, Vinzelles, Chaintré, and Saint-Véran. The Mâconnais is prime Chardonnay country and contains an incredible diversity of soils.
